CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

Chinese Herbal Medicine has been used for thousands of years. Specific herbs are chosen to treat the underlying condition as determined by the Chinese diagnosis.  There are hundreds of Chinese medicinal herbs, and each has its own special functions. In Chinese herbal medicine there is always a balance of the Yin and Yang of the system. Some herbs fortify the Qi or strengthen the blood or both. Others can work to strengthen bones and muscles as well as improve the appetite, while still others may induce a sense a calm, thereby promoting restful sleep or decreased anxiety.

Chinese herbs are categorized according to their "temperature" and method of activation in the body. The most common herbs used to balance and improve one's health are simple foods that can be used on a daily basis. For example, during cool weather, nourishing foods and herbs to add to your diet to keep you warm are:  apples, bananas, beets, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, carrots, figs, garlic, grapes, leeks, pears, persimmons, pumpkin, spinach, whole grains, cinnamon, horseradish, and thyme. There are also very powerful herbs that when taken out of context of supportive medicine and used exclusively can be dangerous.

We take very seriously the safety of our clients and therefore prescribe herbs that have been tested for quality and freedom from heavy metal toxicity.  The products that we carry come from highly reputable American companies that are run by master herbalists, MD's, L.Ac's, or a combination thereof.  Should the use of an herbal formula be deemed appropriate, our clients are taught the proper administration of these formulas and are offered free follow-up phone consultation if necessary.
